Early College High School

What is the Tioga Early College High School model?

Early College High Schools (ECHS) are innovative high schools that partner with a college campus to allow students least likely to attend college an opportunity to earn a high school diploma and up to 60 college credit hours at no cost to the student or his/her family.

The Tioga Early College High School is a stand-alone comprehensive program that offers four pathways that lead to post-secondary credentials. These pathways, while well-defined, are designed to be fluid so that students may transition seamlessly between them.

  • College Ready: Earn a high school diploma and be college ready

  • Career Ready: Level 1 Certificate for highly skilled, high paying job opportunities and a high school diploma

  • Core Complete: up to 42 college credits and a high school diploma

  • Associate Degree: students can simultaneously earn an Associates Degree or 60 college credits and a high school diploma

These pathways will insure that students are college and career ready upon graduation.

Will each Tioga High School student receive college credit hours?

The program provides opportunities for all students to advance toward successfully attaining college credentials and skilled job opportunities in the workforce. The Early College High School is designed to support student interest in college and careers and to personalize learning through each pathway.

In addition to the opportunity to earn college credits free of charge, students experience the college culture and mindset while being exposed to new learning opportunities.

College and Career Ready Pathways

Next steps after graduating from Tioga High School

I am not certain of my future plans but I would like to have all options open to me after I graduate high school.

  College Ready:

  High school + TSI ready

Enter a 2-year college and complete a certificate, Associate degree or apply to a 4-year college.

I am not sure if college is in my future but I would like to earn a certification that I can use to find a good job after high school.

  Career Ready:

  High school + Level 1
  Certificate or up to 42
  college credits

Enter the workforce and/or enter a 2-year college with college credit and complete an Associate degree or apply to a 4-year college.

I would like to participate in extracurricular activities such as athletics, band, FFA and possibly others. However, I would like to earn college credit hours that I can use toward an Associate degree or bachelor’s degree after high school.

  Core Complete:

  High school + 3 to 42 college
  credits

Complete an Associate degree at a 2-year college or apply to a 4-year college.

I do not plan to participate in an extracurricular activity that involves a lot of after school hours but might join a club or organization. I would like to focus on academics and complete an Associate degree by the time I graduate.

  Associate Degree:

  High school + 60 college
  credits

Apply to a 4-year college to earn a bachelor’s degree.

Why is the early college model successful?

Early Colleges make college success a reality for students who have traditionally been underrepresented in higher education. By working in close partnership, school districts and institutions of higher education are able to serve students in a more personalized and efficient manner that leads to higher levels of student success. The partnership between Tioga ISD and Grayson College is designed to:

  • Create a shared vision and common expectations for students and parents
  • Focus on rigorous instruction and accelerated coursework
  • Instill a college-going culture that provides high school students with access to college facilities and services
  • Offer student support systems including tutoring, counseling and mentoring
  • Provide collaborative teaching and professional development
  • Increase high school graduation and retention for students at risk of not graduating
  • Reduce barriers to college access for first generation college-goers
  • Increase attainment of postsecondary education and training
