ENGL 1301. Composition and Rhetoric I. (3-1-3). English 1301 is the first half of freshman composition. The course requires essay writing, reading essays, and the application of critical thinking skills. English 1301 incorporates writing with computers and writing across the curriculum into the course content through a lab setting and class design that focuses on useful writing applications. Prerequisite: Adequate score on GCC assessment or on TASP. Corequisite: COSC 1101 Computer Literacy. (RW)
ENGL 1302. Composition and Rhetoric II. (3-1-3). Continuation of development of skills begun in 1301. Analysis of fiction and of essay writing, methods and materials of research, the research paper. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301. Students apply their instruction in a lab setting. (RW)
ENGL 2311. Technical Writing. (3-0-3). Principles of exposition applied to actual problems in acquiring technical writing skills. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301. (RW)
ENGL 2322. English Literature I. (3-0-3). General survey of major works in English literature from its origin to the beginnings of the Romance movement. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301 and 1302. (RW)
ENGL 2323. English Literature II. (3-0-3). General survey of major works of English literature from the Romantic period to the present. Prerequisites: ENGL 1301 and 1302. (RW)
ENGL 2327. American Literature I. (3-0-3). Survey of best American prose, poetry, and drama, beginning with selected Puritan writings and continuing through the Romantic movement. Emphasis on basic works instrumental in establishing American literary independence. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301 and 1302. (RW)
ENGL 2328. American Literature II. (3-0-3). Survey of best American prose, poetry and drama, beginning with the rise of Realism and Naturalism following the Civil War and continuing through some present-day writers. Emphasis on basic works instrumental in establishing American literary independence. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301 and 1302. (RW)
ENGL 2332. World Literature I. (3-0-3). Survey course representing selected masterpieces in world literature. Selections are represented in chronological order beginning with Homer and including the Renaissance. Prerequisites: ENGL 1301 and 1302. (RW)
ENGL 2333. World Literature II. (3-0-3). Survey course of masterpieces in world literature beginning with the Neoclassic period, continuing through contemporary Twentieth Century. Prerequisites: ENGL 1301 and 1302. (RW)
