GC Jazz Combo

The GC Jazz Combo explores jazz music in a typical jazz combo format, which is ideally a few horns (sax, trumpet, trombone, etc.) backed by a rhythm section (piano, guitar, bass, and drums) and sometimes including one or more vocalists.  This exciting group plays music from old standards to modern jazz to original compositions, exploring a variety of sounds within the idiom, including blues, swing, and latin jazz.  They perform at least one concert per semester.  Still a recently-formed ensemble in the GC Music Program, this group has quickly gained notoriety in the community, having delighted audiences in concert, headlining the “Music in the Garden” concert series in Bonham, TX, performing at the GC Welding Rodeo, and playing at The Boiler Room coffee shop in Sherman, TX, among other performances.

Auditions are required.  Auditions will take place on the first day of class.  If you are interested in auditioning, please sign up for the course and show up on the first day with your instrument, ready to play.

GC Jazz Combo is MUEN 1132 at the freshman level, and MUEN 2132 at the sophomore level. (Both meet together as one group). For more information, check out our concert schedule or contact Mr. Dering.
