The GC Music Spring Concert Series has arrived! Once again, GC Music offers stellar musical performances to the community, showcasing its talented students, directors, and special guests.
ALL concerts are in Cruce Stark Auditorium, and ALL events start at 7:00 PM. Each concert is free and open to the public. See you there!
Jeremy Stones Trombone Recital, April 11
GC Music professor and professional bass trombonist Mr. Jeremy Stones presents a unique recital to start off our concert series. This will be his first solo recital in our community and an event not to be missed!
GC Strings and Community Strings Concert, April 21
Our newly-formed GC Strings Ensemble teams up with private students from the studios of area strings teachers, in a collaborative, first-time-ever event. Under the direction of Dr. Fred Freeman, the impressively large, combined string ensemble will also highlight area piano students, by performing pieces written and arranged for piano and string ensemble.
Jazz Piano Studio and Voice Studio Recital, April 24
The jazz piano students in the studio of Mr. James Dering and the voice students in the studio of Ms. Amye Derix will perform in this upbeat recital. Each piano student will demonstrate his or her improvisational skills in a jazz trio setting, backed up by bass and drums. The voice students will present performances from various classical vocal genres, accompanied by piano. Mr. Dering will also perform.
GC Jazz Combo, April 26
The GC Jazz Combo once again brings toe-tapping jazz to the community in their end-of-the-semester concert. This semester’s group, under the direction of Mr. James Dering, consists of piano, drums, guitar, two bass players, and saxophone. The group will perform music from a variety of jazz styles, including bebop, swing, funk, New Orleans style, and blues.
GC Guitar Ensemble and Guitar Studio Concert, April 27
Dr. David Tercero‘s thriving guitar program at Grayson College is once again put on display. The GC Guitar Ensemble will perform an impressive variety of music, including the premier of GC composition student, Blake Perkins. The event will also showcase solo guitar performances by our talented students and Dr. Tercero himself.
Brass and Woodwind Studios Recital, April 30
This event presents the music of students in the woodwind studio of Ms. Julee Walker, and the brass studio of Mr. Jeremy Stones. A variety of music showcases our talented students from these studios. The two instructors will also perform.
Classical Piano Recital, May 1
Classical piano lessons continue to be among our most popular lessons at Grayson College. This thriving studio, under the direction of Mrs. Tatiana Bays, will present a variety of music from different eras and styles. Mrs. Bays will also perform.
Quadrophonic Monocle Trombone Quartet, May 2
Our community will be visited by some very special guest performers, in the Quadrophonic Monocle Trombone Quartet. This professional performing group features stellar performers from the University of North Texas, including our own Mr. Jeremy Stones.
GC Strings Ensemble, May 3
In Fall of 2011, Dr. Fred Freeman joined our music faculty as a professor of strings. Only one semester later, in Spring of 2012, interest in string instruments had grown enough to support the formation of a new group, the GC Strings Ensemble. They will perform their first formal concert ever, in an event that promises variety, special guests, and wonderful music.
GC Chamber Band, May 4
The GC Chamber Band will close out our concert series with a performance of vibrant music in a multitude of styles. They will be joined by special guest performers from yet another trombone quartet from the University of North Texas. This event, under the direction of Mr. Jeremy Stones, is a fitting close to yet another amazing concert series from the GC Music Program.
