The GC Music Program is equipped with a professional-grade, state of the art recording studio (AC102). Uniquely situated between our band hall and choir room, the studio will function as a teaching space for Audio Engineering classes, and as a means to create superb-quality audio recordings of music students and ensembles, for archival and portfolio-building purposes.
Our main console is a Digidesign C24 Control Surface, a 24-channel digital mixing board made especially to integrate with industry-standard Pro Tools software. A student engineer recording with this board will gain experience using real-world studio technology, and a musician recording through it will enjoy excellent, professional sound quality.
The C24 console is connected to a Mac Pro tower with two quad-core Intel Xeon processors running at 2.86 MHz. Generously equipped with cards and running OSX, the Mac is well-equipped to serve the needs of a professional studio. An Isobox soundproofed casing with thermostatic fans houses the Mac, along with a Glyph GT103 rack containing three one-terabyte external hard drives. Finally, the casing holds two Digidesign 192 I/O audio interfaces, together supporting up to 32 channels.
Our studio is based around Pro Tools HD, the industry standard in professional recording software. Students can record music at GC using the same software used by top-selling recording artists and movie soundtrack studios.
