GC Music Faculty Featured in Bonham Event Honoring Charlie Christian

Jazz pianist and head of the GC Music Program James Dering will be featured in a concert event honoring jazz guitarist Charlie Christian. Though he died at the age of 25, Christian was a pioneer in the bebop jazz world and was important to the early days of electrifying the guitar. He was also born in Bonham, TX.

The Creative Arts Center in Bonham has put together an event honoring Christian and his music. Dering has been asked to spearhead a group of professional musicians who will pay tribute to Christian and treat the crowd to live jazz music.
