Grayson College names two Presidential Award recipients


Dec. 9, 2016 – (DENISON, TX) During Grayson College’s graduation ceremony held on Dec. 9, two students were honored with the President’s Award—Joshua Brown and Shanique Haynes.

Joshua Brown is a computer science major with a 3.84 GPA. He was recommended by two faculty.  Professor white said of Brown, “He’s not only successful, but also outstanding in his efforts to pursue his education and achieve his dream. He is a pleasant and fun young man, and it’s been an honor for me to get to know him and his family.” He was also recognized as the outstanding computer science student.”

Professor Johnson said “Joshua’s extremely positive attitude and great work ethic” inspired his class to reach greater heights.”  

Shanique Haynes was nominated by three of her professors.  She has a perfect 4.0 GPA, is involved in phi theta kappa and honors college.  Hayne’s taught herself three additional languages and truly has a passion for learning.

She volunteers at the Grayson Crisis center, Stone Creek Horse Farm, and helped start Dragonfly House (a recovery house for female alcoholics).  She is one of the first in her family to obtain a college degree. 

Professor Thomaselli said that “she is a wonderful student who has shown dedication to learning and helping others…she is a model for other Grayson students to follow.”  Professor Cooke said “she is an exceptional student who settles for nothing less than the best.”

Students are nominated by faculty and staff for their involvement both in and out of the classroom.
