Dual Credit

Overview

Dual Credit is an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to get a head start on their college education while earning high school and college credit simultaneously.  Students demonstrating college readiness through a college placement exam can earn college and high school credits in the same course by attending classes at their high school, by internet, through video conferencing on-site at the high school, online, or at one of the Grayson campuses.

High School Students: To be eligible for Dual Credit or Early College High School enrollment, high school students must:

  1. Be enrolled in one of our partnering public high schools
  2. Complete admission criteria for the college; including dual credit permission form signed by high school counselor/principal
  3. Meet the minimum test scores that directly apply to the course
  4. All should be turned into the Grayson College Director of Dual Credit
Home School and Concurrent Students go through Grayson Admissions and follow steps listed here
The goals of the Grayson College dual credit program mirror the stated goals of 60X30.  The dual credit program at Grayson College focuses on collaborative outreach efforts with school district personnel, parents and administrators to establish and maintain a college going culture for high school students.  The goals of the Grayson College Dual Credit program are to:
  1. Transition students to post-secondary education with an accelerated pathway to an associate degree or transfer to a four year university;
  2. Provide college readiness and academic advising in collaboration with area high school counselors; and
  3. Provide quality and rigorous coursework equivalent to other college level courses at the college.

We partner with independent school districts in Grayson and Fannin Counties to offer courses in the core curriculum, and workforce education.

Benefits

  • Dual Credit courses allow students to better transition to the college life while still close to home.
  • Studies show that dual credit increases the likelihood that a student will complete high school, and enroll in and persist in college. (THECB)
  • Contributes to the goals of Closing the Gaps through greater participation and increased academic success. (THECB)
  • Significantly reduces the cost of higher education. GC tuition and fees are a fraction of the cost at four year schools.

ACADEMIC courses will serve to complete college course requirements typically associated with freshman and sophomore level courses necessary for a Texas Associate's Degree that can be applied to a bachelor's degree at any Texas Four-year University. Click here for a sample pathway of course offerings for dual credit students. Courses may be taken at the high school, online, or at the college campus.

(Examples: English, Government, History, Biology, Math, Psychology, Art)

TECHNICAL courses will serve to complete career and technical educational programs are related to various high-demand occupations which require one to two years of training and will allow students to go to work immediately after their training is completed. Even more importantly, most of these career and technical programs are designed to allow students to move into a career pathway. Many of our programs have articulation agreements in order for the Technical degrees to lead to a BAAS.
