Description

Our Pit & Fissure Sealant course, offered through the Grayson College Dental Assisting Program, is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and approved by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE). This comprehensive course covers all the clinical and didactic requirements set by the TSBDE to earn your Pit and Fissure Sealant certificate.

Course Content

  • Understanding Concepts and Principles of Sealants
  • Guidelines for Proper Sealant Use and Application
  • Safety and Effectiveness of Sealants
  • Caries Risk Assessment and Influencing Factors
  • Techniques for Applying Pit and Fissure Sealants and Sealant Products
  • Ethics and Jurisprudence

Materials

Note: Registered students will receive an email 2 weeks prior to class start date. If the student does not bring all of the required supplies to class, they will be dismissed from class and re-register for the next available date.

Students must bring the following items to class:

  • 6 sterilized caries-free teeth (premolars/molars) mounted in stone
  • Consent for treatment (form in packet) from DDS stating which teeth can be sealed on you, the participant or eligible patient. Please note teeth numbers and surfaces.
  • Sterile pack containing: mouth mirror, cotton pliers, 2 caries detecting explorers (shepherd's hook), articulating paper holder and articulating paper
  • 1 sterilized finishing bur (small round shape)
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste for participant
  • Protective eyewear
  • 1 large unused sterilization bag for instrument return
  • Pen
  • Scrubs or casual attire is appropriate for class

Review the supply list carefully to ensure that you will have all appropriate materials for the clinical portion of the course.

Admission Requirements: 

Dental Assistants with a minimum of two years of experience, as determined by their employer, are eligible to enroll. No TSI or transcript requirements, and no immunization records are needed. Students will be registered as Grayson College Continuing Education students, and they can earn 8 CEUs.
