DACA Update

Grayson College students and employees:

Our college is at its best when we are welcoming to all students.  While this week’s announcement on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) impacts several members of our campus community, I remind you of the following:

  • President Trump’s announcement provides a six-month window for Congress to pass long-term legislation to support those who are impacted by DACA,
  • Prior to DACA there was a path to an education in Texas that was made possible by House Bill 1403 (passed by the 77th Texas Legislature in 2001) and Senate Bill 1528 (passed by the 79th Texas Legislature in 2005)
  • If DACA goes away, there will still be a path to a higher education in Texas.

There is some hope that a congressional solution will emerge.  Until we know for sure, if you or someone you know has questions about DACA, please seek counsel and review these resources for additional details:

Sincerely,

Dr. McMillen
