Grayson College announces Cal Hernandez as Viking Baseball Head Coach

Hernandez comes to Grayson College after working eight years as a Coach and Mentor for the Dallas Tigers Baseball Club, a non-profit organization that promotes baseball by allowing players to participate in tournaments alongside highly competitive baseball teams. The organization won 15 national championships, and 26 Tiger Alumni have been drafted to the major leagues.

“We are thrilled to have Cal Hernandez here at Grayson,” said Athletic Director Mike McBrayer. “My obligation is to our program and preparing our teams for success and advancing them to the next level. Cal’s young energy and knowledge of the game will be integral in that process. He will do a wonderful job representing Grayson College and the baseball program.”

In 2018, Hernandez was drafted to the Seattle Mariners in the 26th round and was assigned to the Tacoma Rainiers.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to lead this fantastic program,” said Hernandez. “Grayson is established as one of the top junior college programs in the country, and I can’t wait to continue the winning tradition. I couldn’t be more excited to meet the team and get to work.”

Hernandez played at Oral Roberts University from 2017-2018. In 2018, he was named to the All-Summit League First Team after leading the conference in doubles and playing third base. He posted a .329 batting average and had 34 RBI. He was also named to the All-Summit League First Team in 2017 as third baseman and ranked third in the league with 44 runs scored in his first season.

Hernandez also has junior college baseball experience, as he played one season at Cisco College. In 2016, his team made an appearance at the NJCAA World Series. He prepped at Coppell High School, where he was named Offensive Player of the Year, All-State Second Team and First Team All-District.

He earned a B.S. in Sports Management from Oral Roberts University in 2018. His dad, Tommy, is the Chairman of the Board and Founder of the Dallas Tigers Baseball Club. Cal is married to Hailey Hernandez, and the two are expecting their first child in March 2023.
