In Memoriam: Sandra Metcalf
Sandra Metcalf’s journey is a story of passion, dedication and a profound impact on the lives of students and colleagues alike. She earned her Master of Education and Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences from the University of North Texas, laying the foundation for a remarkable career in education and service.
Before joining Grayson College, Sandra spent over a decade as an Administrative Assistant for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad Company, where she cultivated exceptional administrative and organizational expertise. Her time there showcased her commitment to excellence and her ability to bring order and care to every role she held.
In 1993, Sandra became a beloved member of the Grayson College family as a Professor and Program Director of Office and Computer Technology. For more than 30 years, she transformed the classroom into a place of growth, inspiration and opportunity. Her warmth and encouragement fueled a love of learning in her students, who benefited from her patient guidance and unwavering belief in their potential.
Her dedication to academic excellence was recognized in 2010 when she was awarded the Charles & Darlene Schweizer Endowed Chair for Teaching Excellence in Business—an honor that reflected her outstanding contributions as an educator and mentor.
Beyond the classroom, Sandra’s passion for learning and professional growth extended to her involvement in key professional organizations. She was an active member of the American Academy of Professional Coders, the International Association of Administrative Professionals and the Texas Community College Teachers Association. Her commitment to these organizations exemplified her belief in continuous learning and shared knowledge.
“Throughout her remarkable career, Sandra exemplified the heart and soul of our Grayson College community,” Grayson College President Dr. Jeremy McMillen said. “Her unwavering commitment to student success, her passion for lifelong learning and her genuine kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.”
Sandra Metcalf’s legacy is one of compassion, excellence and inspiration. Her students, colleagues and community will remember her for her kind heart, her tireless dedication to student success and her ability to uplift those around her. Her impact will continue to resonate through the countless lives she touched.
A memorial service will be held at 10am, on Saturday, December 28 at Summit Gardens in Howe, TX.
