In Memoriam: Ralph Jones
Grayson College mourns the life and legacy of Ralph Jones, a previous devoted member of our Board of Trustees, whose service spanned nearly 50 years. His devotion and accomplishments will continue to inspire generations to come.
A resident of Denison since 1961, Jones’s journey was marked by a commitment to education, community service and leadership. He attended Texas Tech University and Hardin-Simmons University before graduating from Southern Methodist University’s Graduate School of Banking. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the armored field artillery during the Korean War.
Jones joined the Grayson College Board of Trustees in 1969, having played a pivotal role in the establishment of Grayson College, serving on committees that evaluated the need for a community college in the area. In his years of service on the Board, Jones’s leadership was instrumental in many areas, including the initial launch of Grayson Baseball and its return in the early 1990s where the program saw significant success. Additionally, during Jones’s service as a Trustee, Grayson College worked to change state law to allow community colleges to offer bachelor's degrees, allowing GC to begin the RN to BSN program. His thoughtful contributions and endless support has placed Grayson College as a premier community college not only in Texas, but the nation.
Beyond his service to Grayson College, Jones enjoyed a distinguished career in banking and continued to contribute to numerous businesses and community boards after his retirement. In recognition of his exceptional impact, he was honored with the inaugural Moving Forward Award by the City of Denison in May 2018.
To commemorate his unwavering service, a residence hall on campus opened in 2018 proudly bears his name—a testament to the mark he left on Grayson College and the countless lives he impacted.
“The success of Grayson College today is a reflection of his hard work and commitment,” said Grayson College President Dr. Jeremy McMillen. “The foundation and growth of this institution is a reflection of his commitment and passion for student success.”
A Celebration of Life is planned for February 1, 2025 at Waples Methodist Church in Denison. The service will be held at 10am, with a reception to follow at 11am. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all who were fortunate to know him.
Ralph Jones’s vision, service and kindness will forever remain a guiding light for our community. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
